Mommy & Baby Devotion-Through Mommy's Eyes Part II

100_3605I bet her mother would pick her first any given day. Most every mother will tell you their child is adorable, even if others don't agree. That is another reason it is so important to instill in them the beauty that is within and from the Lord. An unshakable foundation of their worth in Him, so in the "not so measuring up" times of life, they can have a constant reminder of how they are precious and how it is "what's on the inside that counts." We can teach them to look for and see the good in people and not what's only skin deep.

Thankfully, God isn't looking at our outer appearances (cute or not so cute). He doesn't judge you if you were the last kid picked for the sports team, left out and never asked to prom, born with a disability or defect. He isn't impressed with our bank account, elite job or nice house. Instead, He is looking into our hearts. This is what God told Samuel when he was looking for a future king. In 1Samuel 16:7, the Lord said "Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord looks at a person's thoughts and intentions." Also encouraging is Deuteronomy 30:6, "And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live."

What a powerful statement. If we could get our minds around this, and be concerned with the things of God and see ourselves and others as He does, then life would be easier and more joyous. Accepting ourselves, loving ourselves flaws and all and loving others the same, praying for our enemies and loving the unlovable, these would be just a few of the results.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for not looking at me as people do. Thank you for not judging me by the outward standards of brilliance, beauty or possessions. Please help me to be a woman after your heart. Help my heart be pure and compassionate for you and others, resurrect it Lord. Help me love you even more daily and learn to love myself more too. Let my house be a house of praise for you.

Action: The way to begin being "right" on the inside, is through worship. Pay attention to God and ask him to make you fully his. Sing a song and give Him praise. Look in the mirror and study your attributes, the cute and not so cute ones. Tell God that you know He doesn't concern himself with them and that He doesn't judge you for them. Listen for His voice saying He loves you and how beautiful you are on the inside and how that is what matters.
