Devotion: Happy Mother's Day

Okay, good morning again. I hope you all had a blessed Mother's Day. I am so grateful that God has blessed me with my precious children, husband and family. He even knew them before I did, formed them, cared for them and still loves and nurtures them for me. He is watching over your little angels too as He watches over you.

What an awesome gift Motherhood is. When we are in God's presence, we are an extension of His love to our children and others. I always think about my day and realize I am going to be an extension of something, an example if you will. Dear Lord, let it be a good one today and of you I pray.

You see, we are all examples daily whether it is by choice or not, it is a reality. People are influenced by us and our actions, reactions, thoughts, words and yes, even our body language. When's the last time you enjoyed someone's roll of the eyes or cold turned shoulder? Never. Me either. That is why it is truly necessary to make a choice daily of how we are going to act and who we are going to serve. For me, that is what I do during my devotion times with the Lord. He gives me hope that I can rest in Him, He allows me time to seek Him and ask for His plan for my day, His wisdom and guidance.

By placing our hope in the Lord, we are given rest. As stated in Psalm 62:1-2, 5, "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I shall never be shaken. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him."

What an amazing thought...We can be used by God, we can rest in Him. We can be and often times are His hands and Feet, to our little babies and kids. Our reward is in Heaven and our labor is not in vain ladies (mommies). Oh, how often I have shared tears with friends who may not feel that way when they have been up countless hours with a sick or teething baby or child, they can't seem to nurse and the baby isn't latching on, the diapers have just run out, they're having an emotional pregnancy and hard time of nausea and they can't think straight with such exhaustion... Yep, in Matthew 10:42 it says, "And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers (these little ones), you will surely be rewarded."

I don't just challenge myself, but I challenge you to be encouraged amidst the exhaustion and craziness, sleepless nights, teething, potty training accidents, sibling rivalry times, and so called "terrible twos." When we know that we are doing all things unto the Lord, it helps us to keep our focus off of ourselves and onto the source of all things truly good. Jesus is that source and the gift of our children is our reward on earth.

Prayer: Psalm 25:4-5 "Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." Thank you for the gift of our children and parenthood, life and the journey that lay ahead. Be glorified by our examples and help us to desire more of your ways and less of our own, that we may pass that along to our babies and kids. Let their eyes see you through us and feel your presence and Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord. Keep our eyes from growing weary and frustrated; instead fill them with hope and patience, grace and mercy.

Application: Have your time with the Lord and ask Him for a renewed desire to spend time with Him, to read His word, pray and worship Him. Ask, expecting to receive that joy and peace that only God can give so abundantly and permanently despite our circumstances. Let's also ask God to give us balance and seek our hearts to get rid of the things that don't lift Him up. Give those kiddos a great big hug and refuse to frown today. Laugh in the face of your struggles and you will feel joy as a result. (Works for me anyways)
