Devotion: Hot Or Not?

Naughty Dad

Good morning once again and thank you Lord for the beautiful weather. Okay, you got me- I love the rain. Better to be a little chilled than too hot in my opinion. Although, God would rather us be hot or cold, right? Yes He would, as stated in Revelation 3:16 "So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth."

Ouch! Can you relate to that one, with kids? Yep, I can. When you tell a child no and they instead hear or say "mine", or they do their thing, against what you said while acting like they are following your direction... Wouldn't we rather they just say no (then we could correct them lovingly) or follow direction instead of acting as if they are when they aren't?

Knowing where we stand, makes all the difference. I think that is the same with us and God, because "if we don't stand for something we will fall for anything." If we don't know who we are, then we are in a state of chaos. Let's face it, He knows when we are hot or cold, He knows who we are, He knows everything. Thankfully, He gives us the warning so we can make that choice, to be hot or not.

fireOh, the joys of parenting... I can only imagine why God would say that to us, His children. His love is so amazing, He gives each one a measure of faith and also a choice. Free will is an awesome gift and can also be a cursing too. Given what we do with it, I suppose. Let us choose life that we may live in freedom. "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).

Given the ultimate example in Christ, He's telling us to follow and stand firm. Let's run the race and not give up ladies, mommy's, parents. His patience is for all of us, wisdom and joy also. It takes surrender to Jesus and His will. We don't have to go it alone. I know I need to look to Him for those things and more. Let's join in being examples for our children and showing them that they too can stand firm and "never give up." We can show them mercy instead of reaction, grace, love, peace and joy too.

Prayer: Oh Lord of mercy and love, thank you for your guidance. Please give us strength and wisdom to be all you want us to be and to instill in our children the gifts that you have for them. Let us be mighty warriors for you and never give up in our journey with you, with life, with all things.
