Devotion: Our Future & Hope

100_7681

God doesn't give us a Spirit of fear, right? 2 Timothy 1:7 states, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." So, let's be unafraid like some of our children are, to jump off those high places, trusting we'll catch them. Let's trust in God's outstretched arms for us too. How much greater a provider and protector is our Lord? Much greater, as stated in 2 Samuel 22:31 "God's way is perfect. All the Lord's promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection." It's amazing to me how some little children and babies can have and show no fear. Only the parents fear is evident when they are about to leap down a flight of stairs, jump off of a high chair or table, flip a toy box over on themselves... roll over into a sharp object or plant... Yikes.

I wonder how often God looks at us and tries to remind us that He hasn't given us a spirit of fear. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Think about how our children often times go for it and jump when they see us because they have that thought that we are there, they are safe, and that we will catch them... Wouldn't it be so great to also have that faith in our Heavenly Father?

I think it is awesome how He protects us, guides us and yes, gives us a hope and future. We can let go knowing we aren't alone, that in whatever circumstance, we will have His love and a sound mind. That is, if we choose to lean upon Him.

How often do our kids deny our outstretched hands of support, when they are falling? Hopefully never, because they know their need for it in that time of trouble, and they trust that our love, a smile, hug or greeting, our outstretched arms will always be there to hold them and protect them. I pray that we also as parents, moms' and adults; take our time to reach out to the Lord and cherish His embrace.

Application: Take a lesson from a child, from our little ones. We can live by their example and dependence on us and learn to be even more dependent on God and unashamed; accepting of His guidance, love and protection.

Matthew 18:4 "Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Mark 10:15 "Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein."

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for your protection and provision, for us and our families. Give us freedom in you today. Where we once held back, let us go forth in your power and love. Help us to lean and wait upon you steadily and to learn from our children. Let us learn to laugh as a child laughs, to be unafraid if you will. As a nurtured and loved child is unafraid of their parent-care taker, accepting of their support and guidance, let us also be unafraid of you and the plans that you have for us; the future and hope for our lives. Let us take peace and rejoice in your loving care and continue to give such care to our babies and kids too, learning also from them and their innocence daily.
