Devotion: Train Them Up

baby-carProverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."

How encouraging is that, I mean, we have this covered right? It isn't just potty training, sleep training and those fun times of teaching, but the unconditional love, Godly discipline and devotion times with our children that will also stay near. What an amazing promise for us to hold onto.

Those precious cuddly times, bonding while nursing moments and baby wearing (slings) times, along with teaching worship songs and children's lullaby's aren't going unnoticed and will bless our kids for days and years to come. Instilling in them the love of Christ; hope, grace, mercy, faith, forgiveness, salvation, joy and worship is not going to be in vain (without effect). Wow, how awesome. I just cherish these promises.

So, let's get out those training wheels and push on ahead. My daughter kind of bypassed the whole training wheel thing since her auntie and cousins gave her a little jeep that she can now drive. She is so fast in that thing; it is hard to keep up. I still had to "train" her on how to use it, where to put her feet, and how to handle the stick shift... She loves it now, but it was a bit scary for her at first. She ran it into a tree when her auntie was helping push her along for support. She accidentally pushed the pedal with her foot and it zoomed forward rather quickly, too quick to miss a tree anyhow.

Well, I share that story since it reminds me of how God guides and trains us in the way we should go. Even when we run into our trees, He's faithful to guide us back out of the weeds. We can learn from our steps and circumstances. We can grow in our trust and always look ahead, knowing that all of our faithfulness, prayers and time with God will bless our children far more than we can imagine. I am sure that each time my daughter gets on that jeep that she pays more attention to where the trees are and where her feet and hands should go. Even if she didn't, when the tree came to hit again, I bet it would be fresh in her mind on what to do to better her situation and learn from it.

Application: Never lose hope (encouraging instrumental music free audio). Be encouraged that you are being a blessing and leaving a legacy behind with your children and grand children. Your work isn't in vain mommies and your reward is in Heaven. God knows we aren't perfect, so take rest in that. He knows you and loves you deeply.

Prayer: Psalm 139:14 "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Let us rejoice in praise for all you have given us and for who you are oh Lord. I pray we would be encouraged and feel your presence and strength in our lives. Give us wisdom to train our children up in your ways and help us to speak blessings over them daily and pray over them continually that they may know your comfort, love and Holy Spirit. Give our children your favor and peace and be blessed.
