Devotion: Peace I Leave With You

Enjoying the sun

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Have you ever had one of those days, weeks, months or years that you just needed to remind yourself of this promise (daily)? I am in that place and so thankful to be able to rest in God's peace and not my own or the lack thereof at times. I am studying peace lately because I need it to survive in this world. Maybe it's because I am on the go constantly with my sweet toddler and baby and now pregnant and feeling those changes, but even still the heat is on for me to find that peace and balance; and more of it daily.

Reflection: When we may feel as if we are at the end of our rope, God extends a safety net; His peace, not as the world gives it either. The worlds ways of healing and peace often times have to do with self. Like, go shopping, get a new hair cut, start that diet, get in a relationship if you aren't already, or gossip (talk about it with as many as possible).... These are all superficial and wrong ways to fill that peace and gain a false sense of satisfaction and security. I am not against shopping or hair cuts by the way or the others except gossip (huge disregard for self and others- pitiful), just if they are intended to replace the peace of God. Let's be encouraged that the world's ways are not our own any longer and because of just that, we are allowed God's peace amidst the storms and seasons of life; the good and the ugly. He even tells us not to fear or let our hearts be troubled or heavy. I know for me I have to meditate on this one with so much going on lately and just trust Him for His outcome in all of it. It is not always easy, but I can see His hand of grace and love as I take each day step by step and in faith. He is so faithful to help me stop questioning, wondering, what ifing and gives me the discernment to check my spirit to make sure I keep Him as my priority and focus.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your peace that brings understanding in even the most intense of situations. Help me to focus on you, your word and promise of peace, to not fear and to not be restless in life. Help me not substitute your peace with anything the world has to offer, give me wisdom to not fear the unknown; to seek you and know you more. I love you and ask for your portion this day as I go about your work. What would you have me do Lord? Let me give you all the glory and wait though only upon you.
