Psalm 56:3-4 "But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?" Who is your refuge? Where do you go for your refuge? I believe God is sending this sweet message to remind me of His everlasting love, refuge and covering over me; and you too. It is a special gift to trust the Lord.
Story: I remember always sleeping as close to the edge of my bed as a kid, to feel safe. In my water-bed I was literally stuck to the wood frame and in between some of the soft cushy water mattress. I felt snuggled up and safe there; especially if I couldn't get to sleep before my parents and couldn't hear the noises (TV, talking, laughing...) in our home. I guess being close to the edge and between the frame and mattress made me feel safe and as if I was in a smaller place.
It amazes me that as David was in Gath and seized by the Philistines (Israelites enemies), that he would write this. Talk about knowing your covering and refuge. The Philistines most likely didn't forgive him for killing their giant. I'm sure God called him to remember the time He answered David's prayers for deliverance while dealing with Goliath the giant in his youth (1 Samuel 17:37-50) . If he could take down Goliath with 5 stones and a sling, how much more could He do with God at his side this time?
Prayer: Thank you God for being my refuge. Help me to always run to you in my times of need for you are always faithful. Thank you for being my loving Father.
